Sheikh Faisal visits US Library of Congress after his book ‘Qatar Through My Eyes’ joins its collection

Washington, D.C. 4 October 2026: HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of Al Faisal Global for Culture and Knowledge, visited the Library of Congress in the United States following the inclusion of his book, “Qatar Through My Eyes”, in its collections.
During the visit, Sheikh Faisal explored historical collections relating to Qatar and the wider region and learned about the library’s processes for preserving, cataloguing, and digitizing books.
He was welcomed by a team of Middle East and Africa specialists, who introduced him to the African and Middle Eastern Division, including the Near East Section and its collections on Qatar and the region.
Sheikh Faisal presented the library with a signed copy of Qatar Through My Eyes, along with several other books, reflecting his efforts to document Qatar’s history and preserve its cultural heritage.
During the tour, he viewed several publications and historical materials, including Jassim the Leader: Founder of Qatar by Mohamed Al Thani, The Coasts of Qatar and other works relating to the region.
The collection also featured a 1912 copy of the collected poems of Qassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, alongside other Nabati poetry and architectural plans for the former Qatar National Museum, offering insights into Qatar’s literary heritage and the development of its cultural institutions.
“I am delighted that ‘Qatar Through My Eyes’ has found a place in the Library of Congress collections, allowing readers and researchers to discover part of Qatar’s history as we experienced it,” Sheikh Faisal said.
“Documenting our memories and experiences is a responsibility we owe to future generations, and a means of preserving our heritage and sharing it with the world,” he added.
The library’s team also outlined the evolution of its cataloguing, preservation and digitization practices, highlighting how modern technology is expanding access to historical collections.
The inclusion of Qatar Through My Eyes in the library’s collections provides an opportunity for international readers and researchers to explore Qatar’s history through Sheikh Faisal’s personal perspective, while highlighting the importance of preserving diverse cultural narratives for future generations.
